In early 2009, the Carnegie Art Center issued an invitation for proposals from non-profits, individuals and community organizations that were seeking funding for art programming and special projects that support the mission of our organization. We received a large number of requests for funds. After a lengthy review, the Trustees selected the Visual Art Development Project proposed by the City of Walla Walla Parks and Recreation Department because its objectives are closely aligned with the mission of the Carnegie Art Center. In addition, we felt that the Visual Art Development Project had particular merit because it plans to continue operation of the Pottery Studio in the Carnegie Building, which was formerly operated by the Carnegie Art Center.
The Trustees of the Carnegie Art Center will continue the evaluation of how the organization can best serve the community through 2009 and 2010. We are exploring opportunities that will support the mission of the organization, which is to enable the people of greater Walla Walla to discover, understand and enjoy the visual arts through exhibitions, classes and outreach activities.
The Center also continues The Picture Lady Program that has operated for more than 20 years. As part of the program, Carnegie Art Center brings art into the classrooms of Walla Walla schools. The Picture Lady Program introduces the visual arts to students in a fun and interactive setting. The goal of the program is inspire younger generations to develop their interest in the arts.
Founded in 1971, the Carnegie Art Center is a volunteer-driven, not-for-profit organization that strives to enable the people of greater Walla Walla to discover, understand and enjoy the visual arts through exhibitions, classes and outreach activities. In 2009, the non-profit re-organized to improve its service to the community and to re-focus efforts on education initiatives that support the changing needs of greater Walla Walla. With that reorganization, the Carnegie Art Center left its location at the Carnegie Building in June, 2009, and the building moved back to control of our landlord – the City of Walla Walla.
Your continued generous support and tax-deductible contributions will enable the Carnegie Art Center to move forward in carrying out its mission to our local community. Your donations are gratefully accepted and should be directed to: Carnegie Art Center, PO Box 3223, Walla Walla, WA 99362.
